"Kaas Pathar".....One Of The Worlds Natural Heritage....!!

Kaas Pathaar ( कास पठार )

कास पठारला, कास सदास म्हणूनही ओळखले जाते. महाराष्ट्रातील सातारा शहरापासून २५ किमी अंतरावर हे पठार वसलेले आहे. कास पठार हे पश्चिम घाटातील सह्याद्रीच्या उपभागात येते. २०१२ मध्ये युनोस्कोच्या जागतिक नैसर्गिक वारसाचा एक भाग बनले आहे.
हे एक जैवविविधतेचे हॉटस्पॉट आहे. जिथे ऑगस्ट आणि सप्टेंबर दरवर्षी विविध प्रकारचे हंगामी वन्य फुलांना मोहोर येतात आणि हे विविध प्रजातीच्या विशिष्ट फुलपाखरांची ओळखले जाते. येथे ८५० पेक्षा जास्त फुलांची झाडे आहेत आणि त्यातील ६२४ आययूसीएनच्या रेड लिस्ट मध्ये आहेत. यामध्ये ओर्चिड्स, झुपडपांचा प्रकार जसे कि कार्वी आणि ड्रॉसेरा इंडिका सारखे मांसाहारी वनस्पती सुद्धा आहेत.

कास पठार साताऱ्या जवळील एक पठार आहे.जे कि उंच पर्वतरांगा आणि गवताळ प्रदेशात ते

स्थायीत आहे, मान्सूनच्या हंगामात इथे पूर्ण पठार फुलांनी भरलेले असते ज्याला

" व्हॅली ऑफ फ्लॉवर्स "  असे हि म्हणतात जे आपल्याला विशेषतः ऑगस्ट ते ऑक्टोम्बरच्या

महिन्यात पाहायला भेटते. कास पठारवर १५० पेक्षा जास्त प्रकाराची फुले, झुडुपे

आणि गवतांचे प्रकार पाहायला भेटतात. ३-४ आठवड्यांसाठी ओर्चीडचे फुल या

हंगामात पठारावर उगवते. कास पठार हे "  वर्ल्ड नॅचरल हेरिटेज "चा एक भाग आहे. येथे

पर्यटकांकडून काही नुकसान होऊ नये यासाठी दररोज फक्त ३००० पर्यटकांचा अनुमती भेटते

किंवा प्रत्येक दिवसाला ३००० पर्यटकच जाऊ शकतात .

There are two ways to reach Kaas. One is direct via Satara and one more from Tapola through the link road joining Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani to Kas Pathar. The major part of the pathar is reserve Forest. Kaas lake (built 100 years ago) is a never-ending source of Water supply for western part of Satara city.

From Satara - 25 km

From Pune - 125 km

From Kolhapur - 150 km

From Mumbai - 280 km

The basalt rock is enclosed by a small cover of soil formed due to corrosion and has accumulated a thickness not more than an inch or so. This soil is neither black nor lateritic. At certain places water gets concentrate because of uneven surface. The plants flourishing on Kaas pathar are commonly of herbaceous nature of same as grasses. The little shrubs and trees are located at the perimeter of the Kaas pathar.

The pathar experiences a natural cycle of extreme surroundings or conditions, with wet water-logged cool monsoons, very dry infertile hot summer (45^o C) and dry winter (5^o C). The soilis a thin layer on top of Deccan rock, with changing nature of supplements. Each year cyclic ecosystem here, and nearby related but smaller lateritic pathar, has adapted to these conditions.

Other attractions near Kaas Pathar

Kaas lake is on the south of the Kaas pathar and is enclosed by dense forest. It lies between Sajjangad fort and the kanher Dam. Koyna project is about 30 km en route the south of Kaas Lake. Vajrai Waterfall is also close to Kaas which is one of India's highest waterfalls.
